Who is Joel?
Hello there, my name is Joel Self, I am a keen outdoors-man who loves getting my hands dirty and getting stuck in with groups!
My background is in climbing which I've been participating in seriously since mid-way through secondary school - so I've got quite some years of personal experience under my belt. In my climbing some of my biggest achievements have been the less note-worthy ascents, for example the first time I climbed Tryfan via Grooved Arete (VDiff) and led every pitch - that was a big moment, the same with my ascents of routes like Petros (VS) and Gronk (VS) in Avon gorge. However it often seems folk like to know the figures so with that in mind my hardest clean Trad ascent is E5 6a, sport its 7b, in aid climbing I've hit A3 and I have a very small collection of first ascents to my name varying from VDiff to E3 6a.
As an instructor I take my job very seriously and pride myself on running very fun and engaging sessions at the same time as ensuring the highest level of safety for all of my clients and colleagues. I've taken the time and spent the money to become qualified in a wide array of activities such as climbing, archery, rope access and have also received additional training in activities such as bushcraft, shooting, hiking and first-aid. (Qualification lists can be produced on request where necessary.)
I'm extremely passionate about my work and love getting people out on some awesome adventures with me, so whether you fancy a coaching session on an indoor wall, a roped tree climbing session or some time out in the hills learning to navigate with a map and compass, get in touch!
As well as running parties, hen/stag events, corporate events and private sessions for individuals I can also run sessions and programs for schools, colleges, home-ed students and DofE Participants, for more detailed information as to whats available and how to book please email me!
